LUANG PRABANG - VIENTIANE

Day 1: ARRIVE LUANG PRABANG

Upon arrival in Luang Prabang, you will be transferred to your hotel. In 1995 UNESCO declared the entire town of Luang Prabang a World Heritage Site. Nestled in the mountains at the confluence of the Mekong and Khan Rivers, this former royal capital is one of the most delightful towns in all of Asia. Small enough to explore on foot, the town reveals its charm and history at every turn, with gilded temples on nearly every corner and saffron robed monks strolling the quiet streets. The local markets offer produce, as well as silver and textiles; Hmong tribeswomen come here to shop. Today, begin to explore this charming town by foot, starting with a visit to Wat Xieng Thong, arguably the most stunning in the country, with its brilliant mosaics. Continue to the Palace Museum, which houses an eclectic collection, including statues, mosaic covered walls, French mirrors, and a piece of moon rock given to "the people of Laos" by President Nixon. Late afternoon, head to the top of Mt Phousi, with its panoramic views of the city and the surrounding hills. The mountain is dotted with small shrines and monasteries. This is a perfect spot for sunset, as the golden spires of wats are beautifully illuminated.

Day 2: LUANG PRABANG  B,L

This morning rise early to witness the monks in their morning meal procession. Return to your hotel for breakfast. Proceed with an excursion up the Mekong River to the holy caves of Pak Ou, where some of the most famous Buddhist sculpture in Southeast Asia is found. After a picnic lunch by the river, reboard your boat and travel downstream to a rice-wine producing village on the banks of the Mekong. Afterwards, visit Ban Phanom, a tribal village well known for its traditional Lao weaving in cotton and silk. Time is allotted for you to purchase some of these beautiful and inexpensive hand-woven cloths. Return to your hotel for the evening.

Day 3: LUANG PRABANG  B, L

This morning you will embark on your excursion by road to Khouangsi Falls and the Akha hilltribe village beneath the falls. A picnic lunch will be provided at the Falls. Later on in the afternoon, return to Luang Prabang and enjoy the rest of the day at leisure.

Day 4: LUANG PRABANG - VIENTIANE  B, D

This morning you will fly from Luang Prabang to Vientiane. Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel. This afternoon enjoy an orientation tour including the Victory monument, Wat That Luang, the Central Market, Wat Sisaket and Wat Prakeo National Museum. Tonight you will be treated to dinner and a traditional Lao dance performance at a local venue.

Day 5: DEPART VIENTIANE  B

This morning you will take a tour of the local markets. In the afternoon you will be transferred to the airport for your departure flight.
